Membership Promotion
IEEE EMBS aims at bridging the gap between the Engineering and the Medical domains by promoting an effective blend between technology and medicine. It is by far the largest international society for Biomedical Engineers. These two scientific variants, coupled together with the cognizance of basic social and ethical needs manifests itself to serve the humanity for a greater cause. Such a productive effort requires effective collaborations between various disciplines ranging from Biomedical instrumentation to image processing and from biomaterial/tissue engineering to medical micro/nano technologies. Such an effective heterogeneity of various multidisciplinary subjects is very much essential to nurture the budding blossoms of tomorrow with the appropriate technological fusion. IEEE is now no more simply limited to the electrical and electronics world but has spread its wing to every corner of the scientific magnanimity. IEEE thus encourages people from diverse fields to come up and join the group for a greater cause. The mission of IEEE is to successfully promote the engineering profession for the betterment of the humanity. Among the few benefits of IEEE membership are the annual subscription of IEEE Spectrum, career opportunities at IEEE Job site, discounts with as much as 50% off at IEEE Conference registration, network with others in the local member community, having an IEEE mail id and many more. Membership helps to develop better interaction among the scientific community and promote technology career awareness among young people throughout the world. It binds them with a common chain to achieve the IEEE mission. IEEE membership is much more than simply getting informed about the latest innovation in your field. It's about networking with the scientific domain, interacting with great peoples, empowering professional development and taking personal responsibility to keep the IEEE banner high. Being a member of the IEEE Membership Promotion section I would request students from various engineering disciplines to come up and be a member of such an elite group to ultimately support the IEEE mission. Activities IEEE Membership Promotion is a small step towards the fulfillment of the mission of IEEE, which is to successfully promote the engineering profession for the betterment of the humanity. As an initial motivator towards this cause, we sought to encourage people to come up and enlighten its glory, by making more and more people aware of its importance through Boot Camps and meetings. In this regard we have successfully completed few IEEE's Student Boot Camps within the IIT Kgp campus at various departments from 25 August - 4 September 2009, where an overview of what IEEE is all about was presented with details about its benefits to ones academic as well as professional life was emphasized. Here we also aim at encouraging young girls to join IEEE and become a part of the WIE (Women in Engineering) affinity. This was followed by celebration of IEEE's Engineering the Future Day on 5th September 2009 which really proved to be an encouraging one, attracting huge number of students. Currently, students from various departments like Electronics and Electrical communication Engg., Electrical Engg., Computer Science Engg., School of Information Technology, School of Medical Science and Technology, etc, have become a part of this elite group which continues to grow further even today. Future plans Encouraging response from students inside the campus has motivated us further. In future we aim to continue more Boot Camps and spread the awareness, primarily towards the younger generation who are coming up in the Engineering profession and largely to other interdisciplinary research departments of IIT kahragpur, which forms the core of engineering innovation. We further aim at promoting such camps outside the IIT Campus, to various Engineering Colleges to become a part of IEEE and significantly promote its cause under Region 10 of the IEEE organization and ultimately support the IEEE mission. |
